Russia's first production of components for wind farms to be placed in the Ulyanovsk region
The investment agreement regarding construction of the plant on production of blades for wind generators was signed by the head of the region Sergey Morozov, the CEO of the Ulyanovsk Region Development Corporation Sergey Vasin and representatives of a Danish company "Vestas Wind Systems A/S" Tommie Rabek Nielsen and David Rowan within the conference "Investors' Requirements – Government's Activities" on 7 September 2017.
The project assumes creation of production of wind turbines' components, specifically blades for wind generators, with the prospect of further development.
“Today projects in the sphere of "green power" are the priority ones not only for the region but also for the whole country. At the time we became the Russia's first platform where a wind farm construction was launched. And now we will be the first territory where production of components will be placed. Today we signed the agreement with Vestas, which manufactures turbines for wind farms. We are planning a large-scale cooperation, as well as construction of new wind farms in the territory of the region that will use components made in our region. Moreover, the international company will create here about 200 new high-tech jobs for young residents of Ulyanovsk, graduates of our educational institutions”, - Sergey Morozov said.
Vestas Wind Systems A/S will invest into the project approximately 1 billion rubles. The investor intends to put the enterprise into operation by the middle of 2019. “The wind industry has a great potential in Russia. The Russian market is different from the ones in other countries that we have worked with before. Now we are actively researching it and discussing with our partners how to do business here. Previously I did not know that Ulyanovsk existed, but when my colleagues and I visited the region, we were pleasantly surprised with the openness of the regional Government, as well as the development team, and, above all, their readiness to work and develop themselves. We highly appreciate prospects of cooperation with the Ulyanovsk region and we are planning to invest in training of personnel, for example, through the cooperation with regional educational institutions. We know that the region has already taken steps to training specialists for the wind power industry”, - Tommie Rabek Nielsen noted.
The investor’s company is going to implement training workshops into educational programmes, as well as to hold career guidance events to provide professional training to Russian personnel in the field of wind power industry.
“It is important that our region will receive the Russia's first production of blades for wind generators. Thus, we continue to implement the programme for creation of a production cluster for wind-driven power plants. We aim to become the leader in this sphere through partnership between foreign companies and Ulyanovsk business. In particular, this project is implemented with participation of DARS Group, which is a subsidiary of the Ulyanovsk Region Development Corporation, the Ulyanovsk Nanocenter and RUSNANO”, – Sergey Vasin said.
The Russia's first Wind Power Systems and Complexes Department was created in the Ulyanovsk State Technical University in 2017. A specialized department "Wind Power Technologies" was established on the basis of the Ulyanovsk Nanotechnology Center. The work with future specialists in wind power industry has started since September 2017.
